5. How much is our archive worth, and what commission should we pay?

There is no evidenced universal tariff in this research that can value an ordinary archive or set a fair broker commission. Obtain comparable written offers with the same rights, term, delivery duties and fee base.

The supplied context's $1–5 billion market range, 20–40% growth, 10–30% commission and $20,000–$150,000+ preparation ranges are unvalidated planning assumptions. They must not be quoted as market facts or used as default valuation inputs.

Start with a cash model using your actual proposal:

Collected receipts − commission − other permitted deductions − preparation − legal costs − ongoing delivery = contribution before tax and other overheads.

Record whether commission is on invoiced or collected sums; whether refunds reverse it; whether taxes, contributor shares and cloud charges are excluded; whether any retainer is credited; and whether a guarantee is recoupable. A lower percentage on a broader fee base can cost more.

For illustration only, $120,000 collected less a hypothetical 15% commission, $24,000 preparation, $8,000 legal work and $10,000 annual delivery leaves $60,000 before tax and omitted overheads. These are invented scenario inputs for arithmetic, not prices or forecasts. Keep rights concessions and displaced product revenue visible beside the cash result.
