Episode: How People Inc. turned bot blocking into a business — The Media Copilot, 15 October 2026. Host: Pete Pachal. Guest: Jonathan Roberts of People Inc. Watch: publisher-linked YouTube video. Evidence reviewed: original episode notes; the YouTube URL was verified from that publisher link, although direct video retrieval was throttled.

Roberts describes combining selective access with a more useful content product for AI customers. The episode frames bot control as one part of the commercial process, alongside packaging and pricing. These are a publisher executive's operating claims; the underlying logs, contracts and results were not independently inspected.

Exercise: draw up an access table for your own archive: human readers, search indexing, licensed retrieval, evaluation and training. Assign an accountable owner to each access route. Ask the technical team which settings can be tested on a limited cohort without disrupting legitimate customers.

Ask afterwards: “What evidence connects an authorised access event to a permitted use and a payment?” Avoid copying a large publisher's configuration simply because it is described confidently in a podcast.
